Summary

Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Last Wish introduced the world to the iconic monster hunter Geralt of Rivia; his beloved ward and the prophesied savior of the world, Ciri; and his ally and true love, the powerful sorceress Yennefer—and they took the world by storm。 Now, experience the world of the Witcher like never before with this stunning deluxe hardcover edition of the story collection that started it all, featuring a beautiful new cover and eight gorgeous interior illustrations by a range of award-winning artists。

Geralt is a Witcher, a man whose magic powers, enhanced by long training and a mysterious elixir, have made him a brilliant fighter and a merciless hunter。

Yet he is no ordinary killer。 Both revered and hated, he seeks out the vile fiends that ravage the land and attack the innocent, holding the line against the monsters that plague the world。

But not everything monstrous-looking is evil; not everything fair is good 。 。 。 and in every fairy tale there is a grain of truth。

Featuring illustrations by: Tommy Arnold, Kiri Østergaard Leonard, Bruce Brenneise, Jeremy Wilson, Jen Bartel, Allen Williams, Martina Fačková, and Winona Nelson

It was a very interesting read, as it was a collection of short stories following Geralt around through different times。 I enjoyed reading all these different stories as they were all very interesting, as you got to learn about him through these stories and also what a witcher is。 Reading this also helps get introduced to the new world this book is about。

If you like the Netflix show this is a must, adds so much to the world and to the story!

3。5 Honestly it was definitely a very generic fantasy story very obviously written by a man。 There was a lot of sexualization of women and objectification。 The stories were all very mediocre, the only redeeming quality was the magic system and the world building ( The different dimensions) I honestly would not have continued on with the series if I didn't already love the show。 It wasn't terrible and I don't hate it but it was not the best story I have ever read especially fantasy wise。 I'm exci 3。5 Honestly it was definitely a very generic fantasy story very obviously written by a man。 There was a lot of sexualization of women and objectification。 The stories were all very mediocre, the only redeeming quality was the magic system and the world building ( The different dimensions) I honestly would not have continued on with the series if I didn't already love the show。 It wasn't terrible and I don't hate it but it was not the best story I have ever read especially fantasy wise。 I'm excited to see if it gets better and less gross though cause it does have potential。 。。。more

Having watched the Netflix show first, I think they put it together better than the book but I still enjoyed it。 Most of these stories were in season one except for the first one。 Can't wait to start the next one。 Having watched the Netflix show first, I think they put it together better than the book but I still enjoyed it。 Most of these stories were in season one except for the first one。 Can't wait to start the next one。 。。。more

Loved this book。 I started reading these in a weird order, so I noticed the tone of this one is really different to the later novels in the series。 This book was a little more fantastical than the later ones, which are much more concerned with prophesy and the politics of war。 The short stories in this book definitely provided some much-desired context from Season 1 of the Netflix show。 The episode in Blaviken made a lot more sense, as did Geralts exchange with the elves at the Edge of the World Loved this book。 I started reading these in a weird order, so I noticed the tone of this one is really different to the later novels in the series。 This book was a little more fantastical than the later ones, which are much more concerned with prophesy and the politics of war。 The short stories in this book definitely provided some much-desired context from Season 1 of the Netflix show。 The episode in Blaviken made a lot more sense, as did Geralts exchange with the elves at the Edge of the World。 Pavetta's betrothal also happened quite a lot differently than I expected from the show。 I wonder if meaning is sometimes lost in the translation from the Polish version。 。。。more

Great intro to the Witcher series! As a fan of the tv series the books explained this incredibly complex universe in such detail in a way that truly complements all medias。 Highly recommended!

Geralt of Rivia。 I think I found a new favourite character。 And no, it's not because I watched the show and loved Henry Cavill's portrayal of that character。。。Okay change that to, no, it's not just because of Henry Cavill。 The character in itself is iconic。Geralt is such a cool character that I can't help being awed by him。 And his dry humour, lol。 I have laughed and giggled so much in the past few days while reading this book。 It was fun and relaxing。 I went into it expecting some serious epic Geralt of Rivia。 I think I found a new favourite character。 And no, it's not because I watched the show and loved Henry Cavill's portrayal of that character。。。Okay change that to, no, it's not just because of Henry Cavill。 The character in itself is iconic。Geralt is such a cool character that I can't help being awed by him。 And his dry humour, lol。 I have laughed and giggled so much in the past few days while reading this book。 It was fun and relaxing。 I went into it expecting some serious epic fantasy plot but turned out it was just a collection of good fantasy short stories with a dash of fairytale and lots of humour in each of them。 It was an enjoyable reading experience。 I hope the next book which also is the short stories collection has the same vibe as this。Also。。。where the hell is Ciri? 。。。more

Woooaaah, they made a whole book about video game? It's not a perfect translation but from what I understand about the complexity of the Polish language, it's a really good one -- I do wish that some of the names didn't get translated though, Jaskier feels more natural than Dandelion。 Woooaaah, they made a whole book about video game? It's not a perfect translation but from what I understand about the complexity of the Polish language, it's a really good one -- I do wish that some of the names didn't get translated though, Jaskier feels more natural than Dandelion。 。。。more

Great introduction to the Witcher series with what is essentially a bunch of short stories detailing the exploits of Geralt of Rivia

Goodness I am obsessed。 This book was ridiculously easy to get through, such a fast and interesting read。 When I am not reading about The Witcher, I am watching The Witcher, when I'm not doing either of those, I am playing The Witcher 3, what a ridiculously interesting world。 Goodness I am obsessed。 This book was ridiculously easy to get through, such a fast and interesting read。 When I am not reading about The Witcher, I am watching The Witcher, when I'm not doing either of those, I am playing The Witcher 3, what a ridiculously interesting world。 。。。more

The adventures of a mutant monster killer。This book had a couple of problems for me, so lets start there。 First, I didnt immediately see the chronology of the book, & by immediately, I mean it wasnt clear to me until about 70 pages in。 While recovering from an injury, the Witcher tells stories which give the reader his backstory。 The author doesnt specifically point out that this is what is happening, but the confusion of why things were out of chronological order, is most likely on me。The secon The adventures of a mutant monster killer。This book had a couple of problems for me, so lets start there。 First, I didnt immediately see the chronology of the book, & by immediately, I mean it wasnt clear to me until about 70 pages in。 While recovering from an injury, the Witcher tells stories which give the reader his backstory。 The author doesnt specifically point out that this is what is happening, but the confusion of why things were out of chronological order, is most likely on me。The second problem, which caused me to laugh in several places, is that during mortal combat with female adversaries, the narrator notes sexualised aspects of the woman, including her slim hips & how her pearls slither through her voluptuous breasts。 I doubt seriously the Witcher notes those things when fighting for his life。 I cant even mark those down to bad translation of the text, as the women in the stories are basically divided to ones men have sex with & ones they wont。Saying that, the main female characters are all fierce, political, intelligent, ambitious, as comfortable swinging a sword as rocking a baby。 There are no Earth Mothers here, although there are many mothers who never coddle their children, specifically their daughters, but would kill anyone who even thought about harming her offspring。Theres a lot of humour in the narrative, a bit of nonsense, lots of actioin, stupidity even on the part of the Witcher。 The reader could get carried away just by the stories, especially old familiar ones given a very dark interpretation, & that would be fine。 But the author also addresses social issues as part & parcel of those same stories。 He also delves into human relationships, religious faith, obsessions, loyalties, etc。 Despite the pearls & slim hips, an interesting read on many levels。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I enjoyed the world building, but to be honest I wasn’t a fan of The last wish Chapter 5 on there depiction of the women, This book made me cringe on how many times, I read stories about rape and incest which is not appropriate and I would not want to meet this author in real life, you can’t just make a book where you make all the women sexual objects and you can only view them as such, I understand it’s a fantasy world but just like in real life there should be limitations。 But I will say I did I enjoyed the world building, but to be honest I wasn’t a fan of The last wish Chapter 5 on there depiction of the women, This book made me cringe on how many times, I read stories about rape and incest which is not appropriate and I would not want to meet this author in real life, you can’t just make a book where you make all the women sexual objects and you can only view them as such, I understand it’s a fantasy world but just like in real life there should be limitations。 But I will say I did enjoy The edge of the world that was a fun adventure。 。。。more

old。 the short stories do deliver! i'm not the most into them normally, but it fits perfectly with the profession of being a witcher。 you really get to see inside the day-to-day of what it's like to be a monster killer, and i appreciate that。 and it's funny to boot! also love love love the last wish, it elevates yen and geralt's romance to star-crossed lovers territorystar: geralt! the last wish old。 the short stories do deliver! i'm not the most into them normally, but it fits perfectly with the profession of being a witcher。 you really get to see inside the day-to-day of what it's like to be a monster killer, and i appreciate that。 and it's funny to boot! also love love love the last wish, it elevates yen and geralt's romance to star-crossed lovers territorystar: geralt! the last wish 。。。more
